GROW FOR VICTORY (growforvictory.org) is a Christian initiative encouraging churches to source and share an electric rotavator with local produce growing gardeners prepared to share their surplus produce with people in need. This is a very effective way for churches to reach out into their communities alongside making a recognisable difference for good (motivating people to grow and share surplus food).
Message for churches loaning out electric rotavators::
Explore whether your church staff/volunteers have capacity to manage your electric rotavator loan scheme OR seek a Christian gardener within your church who is prepared to be the schemes contact person. Your church will need to source an electric rotavator OR perhaps someone in your church already has an electric rotavator that they can be persuaded to share.
Probably best to focus on loaning out a mains power corded electric rotavator as they are afforable, portable and relatively easy to handle and maintain (you will also need an extension cable). However, be aware of their limitations as electric rotavators will not be suitable for all situations. With a mains powered electric rotavator the greatest limitation will be the extension cable length (and whether this will reach a users nearest mains power socket). Electric rotavaters are also likely to struggle breaking up very hard ground (heavy clay etc). However, many people will still find mains power electric rotavators very useful (even with their limitations).
Only release your electric rotavator to non commercial produce growing gardeners who are prepared to donate some of their produce to people in need (through a foodbank etc).
Specify that the rotavator needs to be collected and returned to your contact person promptly (specify the loan time slot).
As well as making your rotavator available to the wider community, also make it available to your church members with produce growing gardens.
Message for non commercial gardeners seeking to borrow an electric rotavator from one of our church providers:
To be elibible to borrow an electric rotavator from one the listed churches you must be willing to grow food crops and share your surplus production with people in need (such as through your local food bank).
The electric rotavators are strictly only to be used for non commercial purpases (no selling of produce).
The available electric rotavators will not be suitable to break up very hard ground (heavy clay etc).
Before borrowing a mains power electric rotavator you will also need to be sure that you have a mains power socket within cable reach of where you plan to rotavate.
It is very important that your borrowed electric rotavator is promptly returned after usage.
Users of the electric rotavators are totally responsible for their own personal safety.
As security, be prepared to leave your contact details and have a photograph taken of yourself and the vehicle used to collect the rotavator.
